You might have seen a new deal announcement this week for Hallie Bateman! Her first picture book, WHAT’S SO GREAT ABOUT NICHOLAS?, will be coming out in a few years by Penguin Workshop. As Hallie so eloquently said on Insta:

I have a theory that once a kid comes into your life—by birth, adoption, godparenting, extended family, chosen family—the clock starts ticking and six months later you will come up with children’s picture book ideas. I’ve been right about this many times. I was right about this for my own damn self, it just took a few years to sell it. I wrote that book seven and a half years ago. My kid is 8.

But, just because you wrote it, does that mean you should try to publish it?
